The history of the north runs deep and old. Going back approximately 10.000 years ago when the first hunter gatherers came to the north. Almost anywhere you go in Lapland still has traces of these first human beings. After the first settlers came the sami people who are still living and thriving in the north with owning raindeers being their most known trait. The hunter gatherers slowly started to get replaced with farmers about 6000 years ago.
Approximately around the 1400's people from southern Sweden starting coming to the north and conflict between the samis and southern Swedish people were common. Even though things are more calm between the swedes and samis today there is still some tension regarding rights to privately owned fishing waters and land.
